Recently the first ever dedicated report into charitable giving in Wales was published by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF).
The report is useful to us, because here at Kicking Off Against Cancer we like to remain up to date with current issues that affect our industry.
This means we can stay ahead of any regulation changes, adapt our internal processes and effectively deliver on our ‘Charitable Purpose’.
A short while back we were contacted by Natalie who had been diagnosed with Breast Cancer earlier this year. The past few months had been tough on Natalie and her family after undergoing surgery and going through chemotherapy. There was no doubt in the minds of the trustees at KOAC that a well-deserved break with her family was in order.
A while back we were contacted by Kirsty who wanted to treat her children and parents to a trip to Legoland to thank them for everything they had done throughout her diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer.
We were delighted to be able to offer to help and after hearing this good news, Kirsty decided to also nominate her brother Leighton and his family for a treat because of how amazing he has done throughout his battle with testicular cancer
We were recently contacted by a family who introduced us to an 8 year old boy and his father that we could not wait to help. At 8 years old Colby had already watched his sister battle and thankfully beat cancer, and now had found out that his father had stage 3 bowel cancer. His mother Dawn shared with us how tough it had been and how confusing a time it was for Colby.
After 4 weeks the dust has now settled on our World Record Attempt for the Longest Marathon playing 11-a-side football, so we are long overdue a match report. As you are probably aware, the attempt was a huge success with us successfully completing 7 days – 169 hours of continuous football! We are currently in the middle of collating the video footage together with the witness log books in preparation to send to Guinness World Records for the attempt to be officially verified, but whatever the outcome, we completed what we set out to achieve – playing football for 169 hours breaking the existing record.
Kicking Off Against Cancer has an important double announcement to make regarding our World Record Attempt for the longest ever football match…
At the beginning of the year, we became aware of a gentleman
from Neath who was suffering from Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. The family were very modest in their application, not
wanting to ask too much of KOAC, enquiring if we could send them, with there
three children to London to see the musical Matilda and, if it wasn’t too much
trouble to maybe book on their behalf one of either the London Eye, Aquarium or
Madame Tussauds
Kicking Off Against Cancer wish to place on record a massive thank you to Watts Gregory LLP for having us as their charity partner of the year for 2018.
After small discussions in our regular Trustee meetings during the final few months of 2018 we have ramped up our World Record planning 2019. So far we have invested >75 hours of time into the event.
